Anıtkabir

Ankara is nowhere near as exciting as Istanbul, but it has it's charm. Dad's visiting. We ventured over to Anıtkabir, the mausoleum of Atatürk. I cannot begin to describe the love the Turkish people have for Atatürk. His picture is everywhere, I think I hear someone mention him and what he would do or think at least once a day. The landscaping in the surrounding park is picturesque and the Hall of Honor is quite regal. We didn't walk down the Street of Lions, but perhaps next time. The museum was huge, but of course, because Atatürk has touched practically every aspect of Turkey. He even instituted the use of surnames in the country.
In the gift shop, there was a children's coloring book entitled "Atatürk and Nationalism" - interesting.
